In the hardware store hall to the bathroom, Maxi stopped pointing up at one of the cheaply framed prints of great artists. "Look, Mommy it's avocado."
I inspect the print of Van Gogh's self-portrait, looking for an avocado, "Hmmmm, I don't see an avocado."
Then I remembered, the same self-portrait was in the book 13 Artists Children Should Know.
Had Maxi's four-year-old brain remembered the name Van Gogh as avocado? "It is a Van Gogh baby. Is that what you are trying to say?"
"Oh, it's a mango."
"And that is a Picasso" I pointed at another print on the wall.
"It's avocado," he responded, not skipping a beat.
